We listen, act, and transform
Empathy is one of our greatest tools to help others through their struggles, and I believe that in counseling it is vital to show clients that they are understood and not alone in what they are going through. I see counseling as not only an opportunity to learn how to better oneself, but also a place where you can unload your burdens and feel heard.
I am trained in and have experience working with clients struggling with addiction, anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma. I practice ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) which takes a different route than other types of therapy to help clients learn what causes their struggles and how they can better deal with adversity. I use it to help clients learn to accept the things in their life that they cannot control and to focus on actually living their lives instead of letting their thoughts live it for them. I also employ techniques and strategies from CBT and DBT with clients that require a different approach to their mental health.
I generally work with clients 16+, and offer both in person and telehealth sessions. I have also worked with many clients struggling with ADHD (something I am diagnosed with myself) and adults with Autism, to help them learn more about their disorder and how to adapt to them so they can live a fulfilling life. From my background working with substance abuse I also have a good deal of experience helping clients navigate other issues that can impact mental health such as career satisfaction, budgeting, and physical health.
